Luckily the units are basically butted up to one another.

I've had elk before my dads killed 4-5. They are great. Kentucky elk tags are like winning the lottery man. Some have migrated into my state of Virginia and Virginia has acknowledged them and closed season in 14 different counties in the extreme western part of Virginia. Pennsylvania elk tags too are like hitting the lottery.

every year we do a big fish fry to clear out the freezer of all the uneaten fish, and this year I threw in about 2 dozen dove a 1 dozen quail it was amazing. My other favorite is to do a stuffed jalapeno with dove breasts on the outside then wrapped in bacon on the grill...droolin'

The way I understand it, temperature (cold) and moisture (lack of) are the only thing that stops them... And yes, the coyote problem we have here doesnt help either, or the free ranging domestic cats. But we had coyotes and cats before the fire ants showed up and we still had quail, so I blame most of it on the ants...

We do not have fire ants like the ones we used to call fire ants when I was a kid...all red, tiny and nasty dudes. We do have plenty of a couple of other types but I haven't heard of them messing with the quail, gambel's quail here, mostly...some Mearn's and Scaled but I've only seen them a couple times, of course I'm never really around their habitat. It's funny we are talking about ants, I just got swarmed by some about an hour ago. I was rolling by a piece of garbage on the riding mower and bent down to grab it and it was a half full bag of chex mix...it was filled with ants and I was covered about 15 seconds later.
