Since I only have a drift-boat I use it for lakes, rivers and occasional bay. I thought a feller ought have a depth finder. They have these great little recharge 12v batteries now so no need for bulky batteries or portable I tested yesterday behind the house. Ended up ordering a shoot thru transducer Any advise on the STT is welcome    |

That's a pretty cut stix.
Sorry, not much help on the transducer. I glued one on years ago and it was fairly easy tho.

Be aware that all depth sounders, fish finders etc send a pulse down and then returns with the info required (hopefully). When i was operating my charter business i always turned off the sounder once we were on the fish. It is believed that pulse can effect the fish. On occasions i have noticed a "drop off" of the fish coming on board and it was usually because i had forgotten to turn it off. I talked to a diver one day about this, and he said he often experienced circle of zero numbers of fish immediately under the cone of the sounder. Food for thought.
