I’ve been eyeballing a new release. I am really intrigued with the Tru ball GOAT, so I picked one up.
What kind of release are y’all shooting?
I need to get back to correct shot execution. I took a small hiatus due to kids and now I seem to be battling a little bit of target panic. I’m hoping the hinge can help that out with good practice reps.

I’m shooting a Stan perfex long neck. Works very well and can be customized easily for 2 ,3 or 4 fingers. I like the hook style releases as I keep them in my pocket to stay warm and it’s a quick hook up for the shot. It also can be clipped on the string if need be.

That’s a novel idea for a release. Not sure it’s the best at both but pretty cool you can switch back and forth. A hinge takes real commitment to shoot consistently and that’s the reason I can shoot one fairly well MOST of the time but not ALL the time. I just haven’t gone all in on one. I’ve been shooting a Carter Target 3+ thumb for indoor for years now. I like the adjustable spring tension and double sear trigger. Mine has a brass ExOkie knob as well.

That’s what I’m understanding as well. I’m considering putting off anything else, and just blank bale for a while until I can get consistency in my execution. I’m thinking I had TP before I took a break, and now that I’m starting up again it is magnified to me. It’s some odd stuff.... I find it very difficult to get my pin to the target. It takes so long that when it does I’m just ready to let the arrow fling.

When I was looking for a new release, I wanted to get a hinge and s thumb button that were the same. I was considering pairing a couple Carter’s together, but it was going to be the evolution and wise choice I believe.
But that would have been $400+ for 2 release aids. Then I found the GOAT. I’ve been watching videos on it, most people really enjoy it. One downside is the hinge has a clicker. Hopefully that doesn’t trigger TP for me.

You should get to the click way before you start the aiming process so as to disassociate it with the target. It will take a good while to get the moon adjusted. If set too cold you’ll have to rotate the release too much while already anchored which leads to problems. I try to get mine so it clicks just as I take the pressure off my thumb and index finger and settle into my anchor. Only then do I transition to the aiming part of my shot process. You have to separate the two mentally so the click is part of your set up and has nothing to do with aiming. My biggest problem is getting consistently even pressure across my fingers so the release fires without really thinking about it. I can shoot 20 good shots then I’ll hang one up with too much pressure on my index finger. Once I do that my brain loses it and I have to start thinking about not tensing up my fingers. That interrupts my whole shot process for several shots till I get back in a groove.

That interrupts my whole shot process for several shots till I get back in a groove. I will have a lot of practice ahead of me. I will do what you said and make it two separate processes mentally. I’ve used one before, but very little, so I need to get comfortable with the process again. I just need to get a ton of reps in I think. Once I can get it to be second nature, I think it’ll come together for the most part.
