What i forgot to say was the 17HMR i was going to go with was rejected. I feel the small 17 cal with only 20 grn was a little too limiting on deer.

Boy. That is a tough choice Ray. Both are great rifles and to me, it would come down to which one feels the best in your hands.

I played with a Tikka (in the shop) It was ss barrel and synthetic stock 19" barrel it felt like majic in my hands and the action was as smooth as warm oil. Yet to put a CZ in my hands, but it will have to be bl..y good to feel better than the Tikka . Then theres the question of traditional wood and blued or ss stock with .........................?

My hunting rifles are tools. I also have some "safe queens" that only go to the bench to shoot occasionally. For my tools, I want functionality and that is beauty in itself so my hunting rifles are fiberglass stocked and half are stainless. My "safe queens" are all walnut stocked and blued.

Glad that you like the Tikka stock. That to me is it's one weak point.
Great triggers and very good shooters usually.
(Although, I've heard that all rifles sold in NZ have to be thirds. All of the first and second quality rifles go to the "civilized" world!)

You heathen, calling us thirds, lol. Probably what i would prefere is a ss barrel on a nice wooden stock.

The 223 caliber was a good choice. I have used it for bunny busting early this year, probably bowled 50 in the two days in poor conditions. laid down 4-5 deer in the past year. The CZ handles well. But a tack driver it is not. With the best hand loads it produced one to one and a quarter moa. With the best store bought 62grn ammo, its out to one and a half moa at best.Thats with a 9-1 barrel twist

My son has a 7mm-08 and it shoots great. My ruger predator .223 shoots well but I’m not the best shot and would be happy with your group size.

The 7 08 has taken over from the 308 and is one of the most popular calibers in NZ
